CUMANI STAYS COOL BEFORE CURTAIN COMES UP
Trainer Luca Cumani was notable by his absence after Ladies Best ran a terrific race in the totesport betXtra Rose Bowl, but could never quite get to grips with the winner Emirates Skyline.
'I'm never very good at watching races, it's all a bit of a haze to me. I will have to sit down and watch it again. I think the winner just had a slightly better kick at the crucial moment. Our horse finished well, though, I think he wants further,' said Sara Cumani, wife of the trainer.
Her husband, she explained, had stayed up in Newmarket to finalise preparation for their Vodafone Derby hope Curtain Call.
'He can't concentrate when he's at the races, so he's stayed at Newmarket. He's very chilled (on big occasions). I'm sure there's some turmoil underneath, but he doesn't show it,' she said.
Her reports of their Vodafone Derby hope were very positive. 'The horse has just done two steady gallops this morning and is fresh and well. The ground is still all right for us, though I suppose if it had been softer it would have worked against everyone else,' she said.
