Ladies Day at the Investec Derby Festival was the focal point for fashion today as the adrenalin and excitement of the action on the course was matched only by the style and glamour of it.
Elegant, fashionable race goers gathered for a classic days’ racing with the added incentive of driving off in a brand new Toyota iQ.
Once again, leading figures from the world of fashion had a tough job choosing the most stylish person of the day as part of the Style on the Downs competition. The compere was Scott Henshall who gave fantastic coverage throughout the judging process.
Jess Collett, official Milliner of Investec Derby Festival 2009, Kenny Logan, the Scottish rugby star, Francesca Fearon, Hello journalist, and Louise Agran, from the Racing Post, chose 10 stunning finalists.
With Kirsty Gallacher presenting the Final, the judges’ final decision was the extremely elegant Lisa Tan wearing a beautiful self-made dress and a coordinating hat from Zara with self-made flowers. And aside from the honour of winning, she was overwhelmed to be handed the keys to a brand new Toyota iQ as first prize. Lisa, who previously studied fashion, lives in London. The winner said: “The hat is from Zara but I customised it and created the dress myself as well. I made it back in Australia."
Kirsty Gallacher commented: “It’s just a beautiful, colour co-ordinated outfit. It’s very simple and very chic. I love the hat - it’s like a jockey’s cap. The fact that you have tailored it and it was reasonable to do is brilliant.”
Second place went to Lauren Rumble, and third place went to Helen Hunsperger who both won £200 each on Mamas and Papas vouchers.
